Fukushi Sota as a baddie? In a Kimutaku film? This cannot be real. I'm laughing so hard. Is Japan out of decent leading actors??

Well, I wouldn't say that I was laughing at this but rather bewildered that he got such a meaty role as KimuTaku's enemy and a baddie somemore. Sometimes, the casting decisions these days tend to surprise me in a not-so-good way that I wonder if acting skills are still a consideration factor.

Well, it is Miike though...

Well, even though KimuTaku is not really regarded as a strong actor, there should be someone who is a heavyweight in terms of screen presence so as to take on the role of his rival. When you put him and Fukushi together, the latter just feels like he will be overwhelmed by KimuTaku. With a weak antagonist, such a story wouldn't be as interesting as it should be. Then again, let's wait till Golden Week next year to see how the Japanese audience responds to this casting choice before writing Fukushi off totally now. He may just surprise us for all we know.

I just find it sad that the supporting cast is pretty solid, but the leading pair is so mehhh.

Yeah, the supporting cast is really strong and I guess this also reflects how much budget they have to pay for the actors' salaries.
